Prayer Walk

I'm apologizing in advance about how scattered and unorganized this blog post is going to be, I just have lots to say :)

This morning we had to wake up at 7 am and meet in the backyard for a quick prayer meeting and just to bless each other's day. It was a nice, refreshing way to start the day. It was hard to get up and be ready to go by 7, but it was worth it. We are required to do this every day for the rest of our time here Tuesday through Friday, so that's something to look forward to. Devotion pays off.

Yesterday our DTS group went to a place in Newcastle where prostitution is very common. If anyone was unaware, prostitution is legal in Australia, so most, if not all, of the women are there by choice. Our leaders have spoken to a few of the women and they have said that they are there because they feel like they have nothing else aside from that life; that they have no other home and nowhere else to go.

So we went on something called a "prayer walk" where we drove down to a specific brothel and just walked around it and walked around the park where a lot of prostitution takes place. A brothel is a building where their "work" takes place. So we prayed before we headed down there and then split into groups of three or four and just prayed and walked around the building. God is powerful and you could really feel him working while we were walking and praying. As I was walking, I just felt so heavy and sad and dark, so praying over this building was a wonderful feeling. While we were standing there a man walked out of the building and it was really awkward, but at the same time, he looked ashamed and like he knew what he was doing was frowned upon and wrong, so we prayed for him as well. Half of our group went to the soup kitchen last night after dinner, but I am going next week so that is something really exciting for me, but I am also quite nervous so pray about me for that and that I'm able to do a lot for a lot of forgotten people.

When we went to Woolsworth today (our local grocery and everything else store) and my leader bought my roommate and I a drink called ginger beer, which was different, but totally awesome. I bought little crunchies for all of the Americans that aren't blessed with God's gift to man in a chocolate bar... and all of them LOVED it (of course)! I also had a cheese burger from Macdonalds here (which they call "Macca's) and I have to admit, it was better than back home.

I prayed a lot about where to go on outreach and I know now where God wants me to be so I'm super pumped about that. Our leaders are announcing our outreach teams sometime this week, so that will be exciting to know who we will be on our teams. In preparation for our outreach, we were assigned a homework assignment where we have to pick 20 people to email or contact about why I am here and what God is doing in my life and I'm also required to ask for prayer support and financial support that I need. I don't know how comfortable I feel doing this because I don't like asking for anything, but we will see where this leads me. If anyone prays about it and feels like God is leading them to support me financially for my outreach (which is $3400 AUS) then just email me at rebecca_loree@live.ca and we can chat, or send a cheque in my name to:

It would be so greatly appreciated. I would really appreciate prayer as well as I feel like it goes a long, long way. Thanks everyone.

Here's a few tests to take, it helps answer a lot of questions we may have about ourselves, so take a few minutes out of your day and take them! Also, this is the bible verse that has gotten me through the past couple of days:

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalms 23:1-6

  1. what did you learn about yourself with the tests?
your empathy and spiritual discernment is the best!!! I feel like God is going to use it a heap on outreach, lean on what God give you because you will lead your team - never be afraid of what you get from God because he shares it for a reason. YOUR AWESOME!!!
